Liow: Chinese community voted for a better future

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional received good response from the Chinese community in both Merlimau and Kerdau because they were confident of the country’s future under the coalition, said Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

“As such, we must work harder to fulfil their aspirations,” said the MCA deputy president.

In contrast, Liow said Pakatan Rakyat’s “unity” was superficial as its three Opposition parties could not agree on anything.

Liow said the by-elections results were also a clear sign that the rakyat supported the 1Malaysia concept.

“The people there were concerned about the country’s development,” he told reporters after the opening of the fourth term of the 12th Dewan Rakyat session yesterday.

MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said Barisan should keep with the momentum from the victories.

“The Chinese votes are now with us, but we cannot take these for granted,” he said.

PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar said the defeats were not “something to be worried about”.
